Young took her to sea on 13 August 1780 and, in the course of the ship's first cruise, captured one prize before she returned to port for repairs and alterations.
Young's next tour of duty was ashore in the Bureau of Equipment and Recruiting; and, while there, he served for a time as naval aide to the Secretary of the Navy.
Young later was assigned to duty at the Mare Island Navy Yard and ultimately became Captain of the Yard there before becoming Commandant of the Naval Station, Pensacola, and of the 8th Naval District.

Neil Young was born in Toronto to sportswriter and novelist Scott Young and Rassy Ragland Young.
Young later stated that he would have preferred to release the songs featuring the synclavier and vocoder as an EP, and that their inclusion with the Hawaiian-themed rockabilly was a mistake.
Young's 2001 single "Let's Roll", was a tribute to the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks, and the passengers and crew on Flight 93 in particular.

When the Mormons were persecuted in their Missouri Zion in the late 1830s, Young was one of the few Mormon leaders not placed under arrest, and his abilities as an organizer came to the fore.

Lester Young was born in Woodville, Mississippi, on August 27, 1909.
In 1932, while playing at a club with Frank Hines, Young was signed as a member of "The Thirteen Original Blue Devils." He and the other band members moved to Kansas City to join Bennie Moten near the end of 1933.
According to Ken Burns' and his film series for PBS on Jazz, Young's creed was simple: "You've got to be original, man." Yet he rose in the ranks of the big bands during the age of jazz conformity.
