 Animu - Encyclopedia Dramatica
An anime about an irritating little 16 year old girl is left to die on the street by her insane grandfather and is taken in by a family of thirteen closet furries, most of whom are bisexual male pedophiles obsessed with Chinese astrology.
Anime has an enormous fandom worldwide consisting mostly of 16 year old girls and 30-something basement-dweller males, and there are literally thousands of communities on LJ devoted to this art form.
Anime (sometimes called Japanimation, among other things including "crap", "foreign shit", "I remember when cartoons weren't all about half-cat androids who shoot magical beams of fire at ball-inhabiting ninja teenage girls from the moon." and "Annie May") is the name given to the form of animation originating from Japan.

In terms of its underlying morality, Yu Gi Oh is actually a good deal less offensive than most of the child-orientated media that is available.

It has all the components of a standard blockbuster TV series, with plots that are at times predictable, characters that aren't terribly original at first, and average animation.
No, this release is for the fans who are ready to give Yu-Gi-Oh a shot.
However, the drama in the series is rather entertaining, and in many ways, it is rather self-conscious of its own state as a mainstream children's show.

 CNN.com - Yu-Gi-Oh: An animation sensation - Jun. 27, 2003
Like Pokemon, the 1990s cultural icon from Japan, Yu-Gi-Oh characters star in an animated television series (which airs on the WB network) and have created an entire cultural niche full of trading cards, video games, Web sites, books and even music.
In just 15 months, trading cards featuring colorful Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh characters have succeeded in captivating hundreds of thousands of the nation's younger set -- kids in elementary and middle school who live and "die" by the game's two-word credo, "Let's duel!"
Mainstreaming of Japanese anime broke out in the 1980s with the U.S. release of a film called Akira, according to Abe Mark Nornes, associate professor in Asian languages and culture at University of Michigan.

The second series, Duellist Kingdom, is not as good, and is actually quite lame in parts, because the focus is entirely on the card game and there isn't anywhere near as much dark undercurrents (or, in the case of some parts of Battle Ship, not-so-under undercurrents...).
Like the series which wasn't aired, it had occasional profanity, which was very mild, but it made the dialogue from certain individuals of the show sound more real.
Of course, the 1st series that was never aired in North America is much, much better, because the focus isn't solely on the card game.

Dana Glover's "It Is You (I Have Loved)" represents the soundtrack's requisite glossy ballad, but it's better than most, and John Powell's climactic, orchestral "True Love's First Kiss" makes one wish there was a full score to accompany this soundtrack.
Judging by the soundtrack alone, there is some genuine emotion coming from this movie; Rufus Wainwright, the Proclaimers, and especially the Eels all pen winsome, longing tunes.

Ever since the anime series Pokemon first showed up on television in the United states it has become quite the commodity, and whenever a certain style of show becomes very popular it's almost a guarantee that similar shows will start popping up everywhere, and that's where Yu-Gi-Oh comes into place.
I believe 100% that Yu-Gi-Oh was created to bank off of the success of Pokemon; I mean they are both similar in countless ways, but what Yu-Gi-Oh has managed to do in my eyes is equal, or even beat the overrated Pokemon cartoon series, even though Yu-Gi-Oh isn't nearly as popular.
The two series share similar aspects; the main element the two share is that they both involve battling and collecting monsters, there are a couple more subtle aspects that these two shows have in common but this is the thing you'll notice right away.
