		Yuanyang is also the Chinese name of Mandarin Duck.
		Yuanyang (Chinese: 元阳; pinyin: Yuányáng) is a Hani minority settlement atop a mountain in the Honghe prefecture of Yunnan province, China.
		It is a popular tourist destination due to the vast areas of nearby mountains that have been cultivated in to rice terraces.

		After about an hour of driving out of Yuanyang, you will finally descend to lower areas and hopefully be able to see rice paddies.

		I first heard of Yuanyang on TrekEarth, and was excited because it’s relatively unknown to tourists.
		November is the best month to visit Yuanyang because the rice paddies are flooded with water- it was a rare moment on this trip that we were in the right place at the right time.
		But based on photos I’ve seen of Yuanyang on a good day and what I saw out of the bus window, I think that Banaue has some stiff competition.
