Yuba County is located in the U.S. state of California's Central Valley, north of Sacramento, along the Feather River.
Yuba County was one of the original counties of California, formed in 1850 at the time of statehood.
The county was named after the Yuba River by Captain John Sutter for the Native American village Yubu, Yupu or Juba near the confluence of the Yuba and Feather rivers.

Structure built across a river to hold back a body of water (called a reservoir) in order to prevent flooding, provide water for irrigation and storage, and provide hydroelectric power.

In South Yuba R. are: L. Spaulding (3 mi/4.8 km long), formed by L. Spaulding Dam (275 ft/84 m high, 800 ft/244 m long; completed 1919; for power), and L. Van Norden (1.5 mi/2.4 km long), impounded by power dam near Norden.
