yod   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Yud is the smallest letter in the Hebrew aleph bet and the only one that is suspended in midair.
The spelling of yud is yud, vav, daled which also spells the word for hand and is also the root letters of the word meaning thanks.
Just as the yud is part of every letter symbolizes God's omnipresence, so to the numeric value of the yud represents the infinite continuum of the aleph (1 and 0; yash/existence and ain/nothingness; God's manifest presence and God's ineffableness).

Yuds: What it all means   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
We say the Yud is a power letter because the Gematria of the word Yud is exactly double the Gematria of the letter Yud.
The Yud represents the "Metaphysical Power," that is having your feet planted in faith, trust in Hashem, the Torah, the mezuzah, etc. These are areas in which one does not see such a display of a physical foundation like in the other letters of the Aleph Bais.
The reason was that the numerical value of two yuds plus one vav equals 26, which is the same as the numerical value of the Name of Hashem.

YUD has the important job of being the first letter of the Tetragrammaton - YUD HEY VAV HEY.
Zohar states that, in this context, the YUD represents the head of all creatures.
Generally speaking, the YUD is associated with some form of spirituality.

Yedid Nefesh - Song of the Soul   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
In explanation we can say that the letter yud is associated with lovingkindness, so that the Ayin Bet form inclines towards chesed and corresponds to the sefira of chochma because it is the root of the line of lovingkindness.
The letter aleph is in general associated with the intermediate type of Guiding Power (hanhaga), that of mercy, and as a result the MaH form, which stresses aleph, corresponds to tiferet, which is the intermediate hanhaga.
For example, we may see yud as yud-vav-dalet vav-yud-vav dalet-lamed-taf (éåã åéå ãìú), heh as heh-yud yud-vav-dalet (äé éåã), and vav as vav-yud-vav yud-vav-dalet vav-yud-vav (åéå éåã åéå).

The yud is the smallest letter in the Hebrew language.
The physical shape of the yud hints to this dichotomy: It is a notion without dimension.
Naturally, when we write a yud, we are constrained by the laws of this world, we have to give it dimension or it would be invisible.

There should be a clear connection from the body of the Aleph to the Yuds but none of the faces of the Yuds are allowed to touch its body.
The Letter Heh is basically a Daled which has an upside down Yud at the lower left hand corner, at an equal distance away from the roof as from the leg.
Of course, the head of the Yud should not touch the left head, and the right leg should be clearly longer than where the Yud meets the body, since it otherwise can be invalid.

In general, the letter yud is associated with the attribute of Chessed--this is why, for example, the AB expansion of the Tetragrammaton is aligned with the sefirah of Chochmah, the root of the side of Chessed.
The letter heh is associated with Gevurah, which is why the BN form is aligned with Malchus.

The Rebbe’s farbrengen took place on Motzaei Yud Shvat – the day the Rebbe officially accepted the nesiyus, “On the eleventh of the eleventh month in the eleventh year,” Yud-Alef Shvat, 5711.
On the night before, the night of Yud Shvat, there was a Chassidishe farbrengen in the small zal of 770 to prepare for the Rebbe’s farbrengen.
In 5751 (maybe 52?) the Rebbe discussed that there is a maalah to yud alef shvat, as that was the first full day of the new tekufah, while yud shvat was still a "shared" day, partially belonging to the FR and partially to the new tekufah.

Yud - The Infinite Point: The Mystical Significance of the Hebrew Letters
Subsequent to the initial tzimtzum, the contraction of G-d's Infinite light in order to make "place" for Creation, there remained within the empty void a single, potential point or "impression." The secret of this point is the power of the Infinite to contain finite phenomena within Himself and express them to apparent external reality.
This is alluded to in the full spelling of the letter yud (yud-vav-dalet): "point" (yud), "line" (vav), "surface" (dalet).
Ten, the numerical value of the yud, is also the number of commandments (literally "statements") revealed by G-d to His People Israel at Sinai.

The upper yud is the yud of the Tetragrammaton (Yud-Hei-Vov-Hei) while the lower yud is the yud of the Name Alef-Dalet-Nun-Yud.

If we subtract the value of the spelling-out of the four letters of the name Havayah (using the letter yud), i.e., 72, we are left with 112.
The numerical value of [first three letters of the name Havayah,] yud-hei-vav, when they are spelled out with the letter yud in the squared fashion is 112.
Psychologically, this would refer to the powers of the soul themselves (yud: chochma; hei: bina; vav: midot), not considering their expression (the final hei).
