Kondo is too small to be fighting in the Light Heavyweight division with monsters like Quinton Jackson and Silva.
Kondo is a skilled but undersized fighter at light heavyweight and is not afraid to mix it up with anyone, be it light heavyweight or even heavyweight.
In terms of size I feel that Kondo is a true middleweight and as such should fight at 185 pounds and under but he has repeatedly refused to use size as an excuse for his losses against bigger opponents, an admirable but somewhat self masochistic trait if ever there was one.

Yuki Kondo vs Masakatsu Funaki for the King of Pancrase title was absolutely lovely.
Yuki wore him down this way and set Funaki up perfectly by getting Funaki in the guard position- where he didn't seem comfortable against the youngster.
Yuki started to get Funaki on his back by offering to trade kicks with him and Funaki hit the mat immediately, which I thought was strange, since I figured striking would be a Funaki advantage in this match.

Yuki Kondo vs. Wanderlei Silva: Even though he has a long and great career, a win over Wanderlei Silva would do wonders for Yuki Kondo, and although he is a very composed fighter this thoughts most certainly crossed his mind.
Experiencing an even bigger popularity than ever in Japan, and improving every year as a fighter, Kondo is peaking and reaching star status in Pride is something that shoots a fighter to a new level.
This is where I think Yuki Kondo's biggest problems begins, as I don't see Wanderlei as a wild crazy brawler anymore, and this makes difficult for Kondo to exploit holes and connect with the so hoped perfect strike.

There is an outside chance of a Kondo knockout, but I think Kondo's key to victory will be to play a tactical game and try to draw the fight out to a decision, and hope to win a split-decision based on going fifty-fifty with Henderson in striking, which is very plausible.
Although former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett beat Kondo in 2003, he points to that fight as one of the toughest in his career despite the fact that he outweighed Kondo by nearly 80 pounds.
Kondo’s best bet will be to wait for Henderson to overextend on a punch and then look to transition that into a takedown or look for a knockdown.

Since Sakuraba, the most popular Japanese fighter of them all, has tried and failed to defeat Silva three times, it’s become the Japanese dream to defeat Silva, who is a modern day pro wrestling heel in an MMA way.
Everybody loses, and although Silva is unbeaten in Pride, he will lose eventually, and if you continue to simply book him against quality Japanese opponents, he will lose to one of them, whether it be Yuki Kondo, or Hidehiko Yoshida, or even someone like Kazuo Misaki or whomever.
If Silva is defeated by a non-Japanese fighter before he loses to a Japanese one, the loss to the Japanese fighter, should it then happen, won’t mean as much because Silva would no longer be undefeated.
