		Yulara is about 462 kilometres south west of Alice Springs and the town provides a range of resort facilities to service the thousands of tourists who visit the nearby natural geological formations.
		The Yulara Fire and Rescue Service, Emergency Response Area (ERA) is within the Yulara town boundary and the staff respond also over a wide area as far as the WA border, east to Erldunda and north to the Kings Canyon Resort.
		Yulara fire station vehicle fleet comprises a foam tanker, a rescue appliance, and a four-wheel-drive grassfire unit.

		'Yulara', the resort located 21 km from the base of the rock, means 'crying' or 'weeping' (which is what happens when most people see their accommodation bill) in the language of the local Pitjantjatjara and Yunkunytjatjara peoples.
		In 1976 the Commonwealth Government set up the lease at Yulara and in 1983-84 the old tourist locations near the rock were closed down.
		The one strength of Yulara is the Information Centre which has large displays which are simple, easy to understand and comprehensive.

		The primary reason for tourism to Alice Springs had been its proximity to Uluru, which is 400 km to the west.
		However, with the creation of Yulara resort in 1984, and an airport allowing tourists to fly directly to Yulara, many tourists no longer visit Alice Springs.
		Alice Springs had also been used by many Australian tourists as a stopover point between Darwin and Adelaide or Brisbane and Perth, but the airlines now prefer to fly directly to their destinations.

		Next we were off to Yulara were we'd camp and use as a base for seeing Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas).
		We reached Yulara by late afternoon, in time to set up camp and then head off to see Uluru in the sunset.
		We got to the viewing area before all the other tour buses and managed to grab the prime spot to watch the changing colours of the monolith as the sun went down.

		It's not that the musicians themselves are subpar, it's just always struck me as odd that professional artists would want to stick themselves in the rut of a music genre that is so cookie cutter consistent.
		In their defense, Yulara does take a more worldly approach to their music, incorporating many Eastern religious influences in their songs - even going as far as naming two of the cuts “Om Namah Shivaya” after a Sanskrit mantra that roughly translates to “Om and salutations to what I am capable of becoming”.
		Perhaps next time, Yulama will allow themselves to be a bit more experimental with their compositions and instrumentation, but for now there's really nothing to distinguish Yulama from the scores of similar “jazz” acts in existence today.
