The first mark in fact suggesting Ming Imperial quality was from the Yung Lo strata, and that mark was a dragon, not a character.
After his death in 1398, the next strong ruler to take the throne was his 4th son Chu Ti, who took the reign title of Yung Lo (Yongle) and ruled from 1402 to 1424.
Though a few rare pieces with the mark of Yung Lo are known to exist, it wasn't until the reign of Hsuan Te (Xaunde) that reign marks began to appear and became standard.

There are two other names used to further categorize the pigment which specifically call out the reigns Yung Lo, Hsuan Te, and the later reign of Chia Ching (1522-1566).

One fascinating thing about how this coin was made is that the manufacturer took the Chinese coin Yung Lo Tong Bao (J. Eiraku Tsuuhou), carved away the Yung Lo characters and replaced them with the Sekou characters.
