Larches are conifers in the genus Larix, in the family Pinaceae.
Larches are among the dominant plants in the immense boreal forests of Russia and Canada.
Larch cones are erect, small, 1-9 cm long, green or purple, ripening brown 5-8 months after pollination; in about half the species the bract scales are long and visible, and in the others, short and hidden between the seed scales.

It is concerned with developing scenic zones for tourism, building the necessary infrastructure during the first five years (2001-2006), then expanding and improving it in phases: first overall planning for the area, then action plans for the scenic zones in general, then in detail, and then of scenic sites.
The Yunnan Great Rivers Project initiated by the US based Nature Conservancy (TNC), working in conjunction with the provincial government, aims to integrate conservation and sustainable development in the area as a pilot scheme for the country.
