 Description of the Solitary Islands Marine Reserve
The Park abuts 14 estuaries and approximately 500 hectares of estuarine waterways.
An important use of the Reserve and the Park is for marine education in regional schools, and for scientific research by the regional Southern Cross University Lismore campus and New England University at Armidale.
Water temperatures monitored by automatic data-loggers in the Reserve and the Park from 1992 to 1994 ranged from 16.5°C to 26.6°C. Daily variations are small during the cooler months of April to November, but much greater during summer months, with variations of 4°C in a single day, and 7.4°C within a two-day period.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) in conjunction with the Rural Fire Service (RFS), is continuing a series of hazard reduction burns in Yuraygir National Park.
The RFS and the NPWS will be burning a key parcel of the Yuraygir National Park to the south of the tennis courts and adjacent to Pegus Drive, Wooloweyah.
Mr Kennedy says the strategic hazard reduction burn is to reduce fuel loads and therefore the risk of wildfire in close proximity to the village of Wooloweyah during the summer months.

The southern sanctuary zone incorporates an area from the mean high water mark including the majority of Minnie Water Back Beach (the area adjacent to Yuraygir National Park), then seaward to the outer boundary of the marine park.
This zone encompasses the entire northern section of the park that is not included in sanctuary zones, south to a point in line with Diggers Camp.
The northern boundary extends approximately one kilometre seaward of Sandon Beach, due east to the marine park boundary.
