De loop van Sedykh's draaimomenten is tegenstrijdig met de trend om een maximaal draaimoment in de eenbenige ondersteuningsfase te bewerkstelligen, wat leidt tot snelheidsverlies en een vermindering van dit grootte draaimoment in de tweebenige ondersteuningsfase, welke een vesnelling van de kogel veroorzaakt (tabel 6).
In de eerste draai heeft Sedykh geen enkel draaimoment en tijdens de laatste twee draaien bereikt hij waarden van 30° verschil tussen het maximale- en minimale draaimoment.
In tegenstelling tot andere werpers verminderd Sedykh de grootte van zijn draaimoment, in het voordeel van een stabiele romp houding en een beter controleerbare lichaamshouding.

Unlike many current hammer throwers Sedykh threw off three turns rather than four.
His coach Anatoly Bondarchuck is widely regarded as being one of the best hammer coaches in the world.

Sergey Litvinov and Soviet compatriot Yuriy Sedykh dominated the world of hammer throwing during the 1980's, fuelling an intense on-field rivalry that saw them frequently exchanging world records and victories at major championships.
However, at the European Championships in Athens on 10 September, it was Sedykh who prevailed, with Litvinov winning the bronze medal.
Both Litvinov and Sedykh missed the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles due to the Soviet boycott, and their next opportunity to continue their duel was at the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart.
