Topic: Yusuf Has Hajib

The Principle of Ijtihad in Islam
Broadly speaking, ijtihad has the meaning of being an authority in the matters of Islam; but there are two ways of being an authority and deriving opinions in the matters of Islam in the eyes of us Shi`i Muslims: one which is in accordance with the shari`a, and one which is forbidden by it.
The khabar alwahid is that kind of tradition which has not reached the status of tawatur, i.e., has not been narrated by so many traditionalists that there is no doubt about its validity.
After the student of fiqh has mastered the necessary sciences, he may, if his teacher considers him to be capable of deriving his own legal opinions, receive a certificate authorizing him to do so; but he still cannot be followed by others in taqlid.

It has been a fortunate practice of Muslim scholars that they always identified great scholars according to the generation to which they belonged.
But Fiqh has not been counted as his exclusive subject, because the scope of his interests was so very wide.

Amir al-mu'minin has said "ashnaqa laha" instead of "ashnaqaha", this is because he has used this word in harmony with "aslasa laha" and harmony could be retained only by using both in the same form.
In this verse he has compared his current life with the previous one that is the days when he roamed about in search of livelihood and those when he led a happy life in Hayyan's company.
Generally Amir al-mu'minin's quoting of this verse has been taken to compare this troubled period with the peaceful days passed under the care and protection of the Prophet when he was free from all sorts of troubles and enjoyed mental peace.

 Al-`Aziz & Potiphar: A Confused Nomenclature?
It has been claimed by the Christian missionaries that there is a "historical contradiction" in the Qur'an concerning the names Potiphar and 'Aziz' in the story of Joseph.
As far as the variations between the two narratives are concerned, the Qur'an supersedes the Bible in historical accuracy by correctly referring to Egypt's ruler as King, and not Pharaoh and the mention of crucifixion during the time of Joseph and Moses.
Regardless, their argument is circular and no attempt has been made by the Christian missionaries to verify the historicity of a person called Potiphar before claiming a contradiction.
