Yvon Durelle, born October 14, 1929 in Baie-Ste-Anne, New Brunswick, Canada, was a British Empire champion boxer.
Yvonne Durelle's light-heavyweight championship fight against the great Archie Moore on December 10, 1958 at the Forum in Montreal, Quebec, is one of the most memorable fights in boxing history.
Yvon Durelle's biography, "The Fighting Fisherman: The Life of Yvon Durelle" by author Raymond Fraser, was published in 1981.

Durelle had previously held the Canadian middleweight title and had attempted to win the Canadian heavyweight title also, but had been a KO victim to a young slugger named George Chuvalo.
Durelle went through a tough patch in his career in the mid-1950s, losing eight of 12 encounters, including a KO loss to another prominent opponent, future heavyweight champ Floyd Patterson, in May of 1955.
Durelle persevered, however, and went on to post a solid 22-2-1 mark in the two-and-a-half years preceding his fateful opportunity to fight for the world title.

I have read the book on Yvon Durelle at least several times since it was first published.
As a 11 year old kid growing up in a small fishing village in Nova Scotia during the time Yvon was at the height of his career, he will never know the impact he made on our daily lives.
I feel it was an honest attempt to relate the story of Yvon - but I do feel that more of it should have dealt with the challenges he faced in his boxing career - and less to depict his personality - or the way the author perceived him.
