As the service drew to an end, however it was the patient, pious parson, who stripped of his ecclesiastical cloak, proved to be the weaker of the two suitors and the proud, profound poet who drew strength from his despair.
TO say Petula Clark, the Kingston area's own contribution to superstardom, is making her stage debut as a straight actress in CANDIDA at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford, is correct but blurs her track record.
Her role is largely symbolic though and demands less than those of the men whose fight for her provides the meat of the play.

Named after the actress, the Yvonne Arnaud has two performance venues, the main theatre and the Mill Studio, which provides a more intimate setting for smaller productions.
Although it replaced the old repertory theatre, the Yvonne Arnaud dispensed with the idea of a permanent company of actors presenting a different show every few weeks in favour of a looser model where actors are cast for different productions.
