The port of ZDoom Launcher to Linux is underway.
In the current way ZDoom net games get started, you have to know the IP address of the person you're playing against, which I feel is a real pain, not to mention knowing your console number.
ZDoom 118test8 has the fix already incorporated in it, so you may use the launcher with this version.

It is a program called zdoom, which can be used to launch doom, doom2 and other idgames games from ICQ.
Zdoom is widely accepted as the fastest TCP/IP doom around, its free, and it even adds cool things like jumping, looking up and down, and choosing your own colour to doom2.

 The Linux Game Tome: ZDoom
ZDoom's author opted to keep it licensed as it is because it uses code from the Build engine, which uses a very similar non-commercial use license.
In addition, ZDoom also uses some source code from Hexen (and maybe Heretic, too), which has a ludicrous license that seems to permit doing nothing with the source.
Nowadays the Linux side of ZDoom is basically just people desperately trying to keep the Linux port functional by giving him patches, which he accepts and includes in his source tree, but he doesn't even care if it compiles or not when he does a release.

If you plan on playing ZDoom in multiplayer, it is highly recomended that you upgrade your version of Doom or Doom2 to their latest versions.
The best way to teach how to play ZDoom with command lines would be to give an example command line and explain what everything does.
When launching DoomServ for the first time, it will ask you were your ZDoom executables are located (Which of course you must specify), what you want your name to be, and some other stuff.

I once upgraded PrBoom's GL renderer to support all Boom features (like colormaps etc.) and it perfectly renders P:AR E1M6 (the beginning of this level is among the most complex scenes in a level I have ever seen) with 35 fps on my Athlon XP 2000 with GF 3Ti at a resolution of 1280x960.
It is not the same as the Zdoom one, and at present has quite a few problems that can lead to graphical glitches and (apparently) crashes too.
I for one would like to see zdoom have the features that are now in it's derivatives so there would be no need to have three different versions.

The Linux version of ZDoom is working (and has been for quite a while).
ZDoom 1.18 tries to save every relevant pointer, and if a pointer's contents are garbage, "bad things" will happen.
When I fixed that, I apparently broke coop game sync, and the bots seem to be crashing a lot, so I need to get those fixed, too.

zDoom (formerly Doom83) is an adaptation of Doom on TI-83(+)/84+.
Not only did it revolutionize the way first-person shooters were viewed, it also set the stage for all the great games to compare to.
Not only is it a true apprentice to the original game, it also makes me want to give the programmer a big pat on the back for the magnificent job.

I haven't edited doom levels for years, and all previous experience I had was with edmap 1.4, so, I'm a little out of the loop.
However, if you've learned the ropes, are comfortable with it, it offers all the features you need, and it gives you no trouble I doubt you should bother switching.
Don't get me wrong, ZDooM is an excellent and versatile port, but I'm sure PRBooM is no slouch either.

If you've got a working zDoom setup and your the type who doesn't mind huge downloads, give this a try but i am reluctant to recommend it, especially with so many rips in it.
Storyline starts off with you as one of the Heretic sourcerors who rather than getting killed, was banished to a dimension in which you remained for 1000 years until the UAC did their blunder with the teleportation experiment.
One snag: since I was testing this with zDoom (rather then id's doom2.exe - zDoom can read DeHackEd patches as if they were.WAD files), something must've gone amiss somewhere along the line because while some of the enemys' sounds and actions had been replaced, their graphics had not.

Yes, it was intended to be played with Zdoom, but it's obvious that GZDoom brings the awesome necessary lightings, necessary due to the fact that it's a bit dark, at least it's not well lighted and you could experiment some difficulties while playing in the darkest areas.
It was the very first pwad made for Zdoom that I have played, and I discovered with it the awesome pleasure of slopes and Zdoom features.
Perfectly well used, well placed, they give to this pwad a particular feeling: you are playing Doom, yes, but with something very close to Quake, and not only because of the textures.

This is a page I decided to create that will showcase various Zdoom Action Code Script code to help those who are starting out with ACS or "Action Code Script", scripting and want some sample code to help them out.

Many of these files are quite old and were made to do stuff with Zdoom that has since been made easier or the way it operates has changed.
When this was done, the Zdoom inventory bar was not done in Zdoom.
So that part of the demo is obsolete (and explains the poorly misaligned graphic) but the principle of using flechettes as inventory based grenades is still sound.

Act9.wad is ready for action(Mrch2002), it's using a lot of the latest Zdoom features, so to get the most out of it get the Zdoombeta here.
ZDOOM adds all exciting features to doom like better resolutions jumping keybindings etc etc. You can now download ZDOOM directly from Harry's Doomplanet.

When I run ZDOOM it ask me if I want to run Plutonia Experiment or TNT evolution.
The easiest way is to to type in "zdoom -file " then drag and drop the wad.
Typed zdoom -file and it said bad command or file name.

ZDoom is a source port of Doom to Windows 95.
So if you hit the wrong key, or are using the weapnext or weapprev commands, you can quickly cycle to another weapon.
A further note: Zdoom has keys for cycling through the weapons sequentially: The weapprev and weapnext commands.

 Malediction, by Eric Buck, for Doom2/Zdoom
There are some very cool 3d effects in the map but that isn't even the most amazing stuff.
He did some great work with textures and used the slope feature in Zdoom to excellent effect.
This is a top quality design the likes of which we simply don't see enough of.
