  ZQuake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ZQuake is a mature QuakeWorld engine based on the GPL'd QuakeWorld source code released by id Software in 1999.
ZQuake has been used as the basis for FuhQuake (and thus ezQuake) since it is generally regarded as having the cleanest codebase among the various QuakeWorld engines.
The ZQuake source is held on CVS at Sourceforge and is thus freely available.

FuhQuake is a QuakeWorld engine based on ZQuake which is in turn based upon the QuakeWorld source code released by id Software under the GPL license in 1999.
FuhQuake took the core ZQuake engine and added a plethora of visual enhancements which had been initially used in new Quake source ports (Tenebrae, Darkplaces) such as model interpolation, 24-bit texture support, static lighting support etc.
In addition, a closed-source security module was created which afforded a degree of protection against cheating by reporting when certain key game data elements had been changed by the user.

ZQuake 0.13dev builds were updated yesterday, note that they (and the previous builds) have a misc bug, skins are not always updated properly.

Differences between zquake and zqwsv commands ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since QuakeWorld, originally, did not have a client and server in a single binary (.exe), thus during their merge some problems arose with cvars and commands that had the same names in qwcl and qwsv.
In the off state (right after loading of zquake), or localhost state (after executing the map command), it works like the serverinfo in zqwsv, and you can change serverinfo settings of the server.
About the ZQuake Project (or more specifically, about the zquake-server) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ZQuake-server (zqwsv) is basically your plain-vanilla QW-server with some simple (but VERY useful) additions.

ZQuake's better stay the way it is now than turn into a mess of useless features and arguable code optimizations.
Yesterday I asked the guys from www.quakesrc.org and www.open-quake.com to change their links to ZQuake site so that they point to zquake.sourceforge.net instead of zquake.frag.ru.
No, ZQuake is not going to support Q2 maps -- their format is too different, and I had to hack a lot to make them work with the ZQuake engine.

One of the cool devs, named "Squidge" has fixed the previously reported problem with Zquake and it is now working on the Zodiac.
Here is the Alpha thread where you can find the link to download Zquake and discuss all the issues involved.
Also once Zquake is done, Skeezix, our most popular dev is going to port it to regular Palm OS..

Building on the Zodiac ZQuake work of Jeff Mitchel (aka 'Skeezix') and the developer known as 'Squidge'), Yoyofr announced that he would port this to non-Zodiac Palm OS devices.
ZQuake will be an interesting experiment, especially with the 8Mb of V-RAM.
You can get the original source for ZQuake on my codejedi.com site; the build on yoyo's site is a PNO version (for all Palm OS, and not just Zodiac).

I'm going to swap to ZQuake for now anyway (so i can use cl_broken_ankle_sucks) so I will list anything i come accross.
I honestly don't think there is that much that FuhQuake and ezQuake have over ZQuake apart from security and eye-candy (of which i use neither).
Oh btw I forgot, -dinput is turned on by default in recent ZQuakes

ZQuake is simply a port of Quake to Palm/Zodiac.
Inside the ZQuake ZIP that you downloaded, there will be a file called 'zquake.zdk'.
Place that file inside the 'ZQuake' folder on the SD card.

(I use a modified environment over here.) ZQuake was originally a port of PocketQuake; after running into this issue, I've merged in numerous files from GPQuake..
Time for a straight Quake1 port just to see if it helps :P So far, nomatter what options are chosen, it'll run on the Zodiac very well -- excepting the player is stuck at 0,0,1, instead of spawning where he's supposed to.

Also, many bugs have been fixed and the GL client is much faster than glqwcl.
Sadly, ZQuake has nearly no support for OSes other than windows.
There used to be a ZQuake linux client, but it was software only and suffered from the same bugs as qwcl.x11 and linux quake2 software (such as inability to display property at higher than 8 bpp).

I was just using /map dm4 in ZQuake, not playing online.
i use zquake periodically when i'm tired of all that tiring eyecandy from ezquake and need to relax with the good ol' quake graphics.
Not just freestyle maps either, there's TF maps that need r_farclip (the reason Fuh made the cvar in the first place, TF'er he was).

I have been looking for a way to provide null video output in a clean way for some time and I gather (from Googling and finding mailing list archives) that some time ago a patch was accepted into SDL that provides a null video device.
We require null video output for the AGRIP project (http://www.agrip.org.uk/) which consists partly of a customised build of ZQuake.
I would ideally like to simply take the SDL version of ZQuake and change the bits that initialise the video to use the null device.

You even dont need pak0.pak, etc (by disconnect from ZQuake) - A thousand bugfixes i found at ZQuake (like merge pmtrace_t with trace_t, etc), but I dont think I have to write it here, since only developers can understand it :P } (by disconnect) - sv_nailhack is 1 by default.
If you set this cvar to something like 1.5 or 2, a solider will not be able to bunnyhop as fast as a scout does :) Note that this cvar is optional and disabled by default, so it will in NO WAY affect gameplay unless you set it explicitly to anything but 0.

 Zquake (daa) -- Download And Help Debug - Emuboards
First, this is a debug version, and thus for devs only (it needs DAA to run).
So run ZQuake, console comes up, hit right trigger to do escape to go into game.
So run ZQuake, click bottom right to go from console to menu, click top right a couple times (single player, new game) and voila, you're in game.

Normally, after exiting ZQuake, free RAM will drop to 3.2MB due to UDMH using RAM to simulate heap, but this doesn't worry me, because a soft reset releases this RAM, and my T2 goes back to 11.2MB free RAM.
So just a few minutes ago I was happily playing ZQuake when some error message flashed across the screen.
I couldn't read it, because my T2 immediately suffered a soft reset, but the message was generated by ZQuake.

Having said that, there are some custom QW engines floating around, notably ZQuake.
zquake is boss, but a couple moronic servers quick you off for using it, i won't go on about how stupid all these people paranoid about cheaters are, but ZQUAKE is sweet!
I have it in the Quake folder and when I double clock Zquake it says GFX wad error.

I've downloaded ZQuake (cause starting a normal QW server is to hard for my little brain) put all of the stuff in my Quake World folder.
I wouldnt have to ask if they would have kindly wrote the instructions on how to install ZQuake but because they didnt me and my friends can't play it over the interweb.

ZQuake (as you can download it from my site) is signed and don't nedd DAA anymore.
Does ZQuake work on normal Palm OS devices (besides the scaling/rumble features)?
there seems to be a ton of people that don't know there is a signed version of zquake out now.....can we get a news post or something about this?

I see it now, you made it so that the.kmap file is executed like a normal.cfg file, and at the same its syntax is almost identical to ZQuake's.
I had a compatibility version with both, the ZQuake "loadkeys" command and the "keymap_load" command in (actually it's still in the sources with a #define around it).
So you could load a zquake keymap with "loadkeys" and then store it in the new format with "keymap_save".

Anyway, after you pointed out zQuake to me on IRC, I no longer needed to struggle with the config file
ZQuake allows for much better graphics, like lots and lots of Quake mods, but more importantly, it gives you a whole load of different options to scale up or down so you can run it well on pretty much any machine.
And also, you can slow down demos, which is really cool for screenshots and stuff.

I have always been a zquake fan (admittedly, not having tried moreqw for more than a few days, which I'm sure is very good too).
The new features listed is all eskimo to me anyways though, reminds me of John Carmack and his long posts on updated technical features he's put in to doom 3.
