  ZSNES - Emuscene Wiki
ZSNES is arguably the most compatible and fast (but technically inaccurate) SNES emulator available for Intel Macs.
ZSNES joins BSNES and snes9x (available here) as the third SNES emulator to run natively on the Intel Mac platform.
Because ZSNES is written mostly in assembler it is difficult or simply not possible to port to non x86 architectures (explaining why a PPC port was never made).

VT Emulation Network - ZSNES Review
ZSNES uses a proprietary GUI that is OS independent, meaning that ZSNES will preserve its appearance on whatever it’s used on, regardless of platform or visual settings on the platform in question.
ZSNES supports a wide array of graphical filters and video-enhancing features such as Vsync to prevent video from splitting horizontally and triple-buffering to smooth out frame transitions and give the video a feel of “liquid smoothness”.
ZSNES also includes a chat module in its netplay function which allows you and your opponent to communicate before a game, after a game, or even in the middle of the game with the text line appearing in a subtle location at the bottom of the screen.

  ZSNES
ZSNES has several capabilities which its Super Famicom and Super Nintendo counterparts did not have; it can "smooth" the appearance of the screen through a variety of anti-aliasing schemes, and it has a better quality of sound output than the original console systems.
Originally, ZSNES was closed source, however, in 2001, a new license was established and the project became open-source using SourceForge, a branch of the Open Source Development Network, as a basis of operations.
ZSNES was also the first SNES emulator to fully emulate the Super FX, DSP-1, and C4 chips.

ZSNES is largely written in Intel x86 assembly language, and is therefore not easily portable to other architectures, such as PowerPC
Due to being written in assembly, ZSNES is very fast, allowing it to run most SNES games at 50-60 frames per second with a computer that has a 400 MHz Pentium 2 CPU and 64 MB RAM, with full stereo sound and basic graphics interpolation.
ZSNES is still in active development, although the frequency of official releases has fallen dramatically since its original developer, zsKnight, left the team due to the death of his father.

 Snes9x or Zsnes - Emuforums.com
ZSnes looks better (Snes9x doesn't interpolate the video after filtering, at least for me) and ZSnes now has the stunning hq3x filter for guys with fast processors.
ZSnes sounds better as it has a better sound core as well as having more options for sound interpolation and lowpass, which Snes9x hasn't got at all (has only Gaussian).
ZSnes is faster on low-end systems because it is coded in ASM rather than C. ZSnes also has better Netplay- you can play over the internet with 56K with hardly any lag, while Snes9x implementation only works over LAN or it desyncs all the time.
