Said ibn Jubair and Mujaiyid explained the word zabur to mean all inspired books, and that by zikr was meant the Preserved Tablet (al-Lauhu 'l-Mahfuz).

It is for this reason that Imam Zainul Abideen was forced to take another approach in his mission to convey the lofty teachings of Islam and at the same time, preserve the memory of the Ahlul Bayt in the hearts of the people.
As historians note, the Zabur was the book of Prophet Dawud (David) which contained his own prayers, supplications and requests to Allah and it is for this reason ‘Zabur of Aale Muhammad’ was given to this work of the 4th Imam as it contains the prayers of the Family of the Prophet.
The nature of the supplications were general and had no direct “political themes” which could cause the Bani Umayyah to become uneasy.

According to the translation of the above verses of the Holy Qur’an as rendered by A. Yusuf Ali, these same verses refer to David as having received the (gift of) the Psalms.
A striking example given here is the gift of song and music as given to David, but it implies no superiority of David over others.
David was given the Zabur, the Psalter or Psalms, intended to be sung for the worship of God and the celebration of God’s Praise."
