Though the group is ably represented by the heavy hitters at G.A.S., Lind is still serving as the band's point man and de facto manager, a role he assumed almost two years ago when Jimmy Eat World severed nearly all its business ties and ventured out on its own.
Of course, it wasn't so long ago that Lind's only concern was wondering if his childhood buddy Jim Adkins would be able to get a ride to come over and jam.

While Adkins, Lind, guitarist-singer Tom Linton and bassist Rick Burch paid limited tribute to their more aggressive roots Friday, the polished material of "Jimmy Eat World" and 1999's "Clarity" took center stage — and rightfully so — at this benefit show for victims of last summer's Arizona wildfires.
Newer, hook-filled hits such as last year's "The Middle" and "Sweetness" are what catapulted this band onto MTV, the Billboard charts and "Saturday Night Live," while cuts from "Clarity" such as "Blister" and "Your New Aesthetic" (which both spotlighted Linton on vocals Friday) moved the band toward a more focused sound that widened its appeal.
Linton and Adkins continued to build a wall of guitar work on 1999's "Lucky Denver Mint," an early flash point for the band after it was leaked to radio.

Critics and college radio programmers noted the intriguing range of the disc, introduced by the infectious, up-tempo opener "Thinking, That's All" and cemented with the subdued finale "Anderson Mesa."
