  Zakarpattia Oblast - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This region was occupied by Romania end of 1918 but recaptured by Hungary in 1919 summer.
During the World War II Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, the region was awarded to Hungary under the First Vienna Award in 1938, becoming one of her 'highland' territories.
After the Soviet "liberation" in 1944, Zakarpattia became part of Czechoslovakia again but she was awarded by government of Klement Gottwald to the Soviet Union and became part of the Ukrainian SSR in June 1945.

Zakarpattya is divided into 13 administrative rayons, it has 10 towns, of them 4 are in the oblast subordination (Uzhgorod, Beregovo, Makachevo, Khust), 20 urban settlements, 579 villages.
Zakarpattya is an active member of the Carpathian Euroregion – the inter-regional association of frontier lands of Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

Main problem for Zakarpattya region is protection of population, enterprises, agricultural lands and urban regions against floods and high water caused by Tisza River and its tributaries.
Flood protecting facilities in the Zakarpattya region are designed for different levels of floods but in accordance with standards of the time they were put into operation.
Insufficient financing of flood protection measures in Zakarpattya region was one of the reasons that caused the hard flood damages of November 1998 and March 2001.

One has to take into consideration that almost all treatment works on the territory of the region require repair for which there are no funds and water intake volume increase in the future that will lead to the increase in volume of polluted sewage discharge.
In the region a special service was formed - the regional production board “Zakarpatkomunremsilsbud” (communal repair of agricultural building of Zakarpattya) which should help in solving of this problem.
With the purpose of working out of the regional program for water supply sewarage system development in 1997, the present state of existing sewarage systems and effectiveness of their work was estimated.

The publication analyses the experience of implementing the model of cross-sectoral cooperation to the processes of local development in Ukraine, using the example of Zakarpattya region.
To analyze the practice of local development in Zakarpattya region the following territories were chosen – city of Uzhgorod as administrative center of the region and two administrative districts – Perechin and Rakhiv, which can be defined as rural (according to the structure of economy).

 THE INFORMATION ON ECOLOGICAL CLUB “CARPATHIANS”
During its existence the organisation struggled against poaching and other infringements of the nature protecting legislation, and also carried out of ecological education through organisation of ecological camps, performances in mass media, conversations, lectures and excursions for visitors of Carpathian reserve and local inhabitants.
During 1997 Ecoclub fulfilled the BSP (Biodiversity Support Program) project “Optimisation of a network of protected area of the Zakarpattya region and improving of their protection”, and in 1998 - BSP project “Edition of the illustrated reference book “Protected areas fund of the Zakarpattya region”.
The performance of the BSP projects was carried out in close co-operation with Department of Protection of Natural Environment and Nuclear Safety of the Zakarpattya region, Department of a Forestry of the Zakarpattya region and Carpathian Biosphere Reserve.
