Star Sapphire   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The Star Sapphire is the chosen queen of the Zamarons, an immortal race of females descended from the planet Maltus.
It is known that her "royal lineage" extends back at least a few hundred years to the 11th Century, when a Star Sapphire and the entity known as the Predator attempted to have a "child" between them.
The Zamarons sought out to prove to their proposed queen that Green Lantern was weak, and therefore not deserving of her attention.

 Zamarons - Oracle Files
The Zamarons and the blue-skinned race of beings known as the Guardians of the Universe share a common heritage.
On Zamaron, the female Oans established a warrior culture and, for reasons yet unrevealed, chose to be ruled by a succession of mortal, non-Zamaron women.
Though it is unknown how many queens have ruled the Zamarons over the ages, the Zamarons found one of their more recent Star Sapphires on Earth, in the person of Carol Ferris, president of Ferris Aircraft and sometime-girlfriend of the Green Lantern known as Hal Jordan.

 Star Sapphire - Oracle Files
The role of Star Sapphire is the creation of the Zamarons, the race of women warriors who are the descendants of the Oans and the female counterparts of the creators of the Green Lantern Corps, the Guardians of the Universe.
For millennia, the Zamarons had made a practice of choosing as their queen an alien mortal with certain physical characteristics and, upon the death of their previous ruler, they found their next Star Sapphire on Earth: Carol Ferris, president of Ferris Aircraft and sometime-girlfriend of the Green Lantern known as Hal Jordan.
After years of trying to prove herself to the Zamarons, Star Sapphire was suddenly a queen without subjects and was driven insane by the sacrifices she had made that were suddenly without reward.

The females, however, saw no need to involve themselves and, since the Oans were by then immortal and had no more need to reproduce, left their mates and became known as The Zamarons (a near-anagram of Amazons).
After billions of years, the Zamarons and Guardians evolved (since they did not reproduce, it was the individuals themselves who evolved) into different forms.
The Zamarons eventually decided to rejoin their Guardian mates in order to father a foretold new generation of Oans.

The Zamarons are a fictional extraterrestrial race within the DC Comics universe.
The Zamarons developed a warrior-like culture, and, unlike the Guardians, preferred to focus on developing their physical abilities over their mental ones; they developed the habit of storing their psionic energies on purple crystals.
They also have a custom of choosing a female that bears a certain specific appearance as their leader; this person is given a "star sapphire" that grants her enormous mental powers but also takes over her mind.
