Yes Stand On Zanzibar is essentially about overpopulation but weaved around this central theme are so many other story strands that to describe the book so simply almost seems to be doing it a disservice.
Stand On Zanzibar is generally considered to be John Brunner's best book but personally I have always preferred The Sheep Look Up.
He seems to be undergoing something of a renascence lately what with Millennium Books reissuing Stand On Zanzibar in 1999 and Victor Gollance reprinting The Jagged Orbit as part of their Science Fiction range last year.
