In Zapopan bevindt zich een basiliek voor Onze Vrouwe van Zapopan, waardoor het een bedevaartsoord is. Zapopan staat bekend als commercieel centrum voor de omgeving.
Zapopan werd officieel in 1541 gesticht, maar het werd pas in 1991 als stad erkend.

The Virgin of Zapopan is a statue of the Virgin Mary that has a permanent home in the main church of Zapopan, a small town 5 miles from Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest ci.
In that year, the church of Zapopan was destroyed by an earthquake but by chance, or a miracle depending on your point of view, the small statue of the Virgin survived.
It was the size of a small float, was decorated with flowers, and had a special high, gold-painted platform in the center that was surrounded by a lighted arch where the statue would be placed.

August 30, 2004--The town of Zapopan in Mexico's Jalisco state is working with US consultancy Integrant to develop a strategic plan for a software development center, Zapopan's director of economic development Arturo Olvera said.
Together with Zapopan officials, the consultancy will present the center's strategy to government representatives at the end of the year.
Integrant is doing the first phase of the project for free and will be hired by Zapopan for future services after construction is begun.
