The largest number of urban river beaches is concentrated in the territory of Kharkiv (34%) and Donetsk (11%) regions, and urban sea beaches in the territory of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea (64%) and in Odesa Region (16%).
Water in the zone of beaches in Donetsk and Odesa regions with 25.4% of all health-restoring establishments with beaches of Ukraine and 29.7% of establishments with sea beaches, is characterized by high pollution indices.
A decrease of the level of bacterial pollution was observed in Donetsk, Vinnytsia, Dniepropetrovsk, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy and Chernivtsi regions and in Sevastopol and Kyiv; an increase was observed in Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, Chernigiv, Kyiv, Lugansk, Poltava, Sumy and Kharkiv regions and in the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea.

 Environmental Health Issues - State of Morbidity for Infectious Diseases  and Pollution of the Environment
The increased number of typhoid fever cases in Ukraine in 1998 is connected with a deterioration of the epidemic situation with regard to this infection in Zakarpattia Region, where 88 cases of infection transmitted through water sources (6.83 per 100,000 people) were registered in 1998 against 3 cases (0.23 per 100,000) in 1997.
An analysis of cases of virus hepatitis A in Ukraine in 1998 shows a decrease of morbidity as compared to 1997 in all regions except for Chernivtsi Region where morbidity increased by 7.23% and was 90.04 in 1998 against 83.26 per 100,000 people in 1997.
In 1998 the largest numbers of people sick with all forms of active tuberculosis were registered in the regions of Donetsk (68.5), Zaporizhzhia (72.8), Kirovograd (63.0), Mykolaiv (62.5) and Kherson (70.4 cases per 100,000 people), the average calculated numbers in Ukraine being 55.3 cases per 100,000 people.

One local representative from the CVU in Zaporizhzhia spoke to one of the “cleaners”, who admitted that she was ordered by the local administration to remove the posters along the roads in the city.

The Zaporizhzhia region Economic Court has banned the Fuel and Energy Ministry, which owns 76% of the Dniproenergo company, Ukraine' largest electricity producer, from reorganizing the company and selling its assets, Zaporizhzhia Economic Court judge Lyubov Dotsenko informed.
According to Dotsenko, the restructuring was banned until a court ruling on the reorganization of the company and the appointment of an arbitration manager within the framework of bankruptcy case against Dniproenergo.
According to him, the UAH 600 million that the Cabinet of Ministers hopes to generate from the sale of 37% of the shares in Ukrtelecom is expected to enable the government to exceed the target for generating funds from privatization of state assets this year.

On 11 June 2002 the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court of Appeal (the “Court of Appeal”) quashed that decision and remitted the case to the same court for a fresh consideration.
