Zarahemla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The city of Zarahemla was named after a man by the same name who was present in Zarahemla when Mosiah discovered it.
Zarahemla's descendants include Ammon of Zarahemla, who led the quest to find those who had gone in search of Lehi-Nephi and Coriantumr, who led the Lamanites in battle against the Nephites.
The location of Zarahemla (and surrounding lands) is not specified nor implied by official doctrine of the LDS Church.

They apparently unknowingly bypassed the whole Nephite homeland area of Zarahemla and in some way mistakenly overshot it through the "narrow neck of land" all the way northward to the Jaredite ruins, "and they having supposed it to be the land of Zarahemla returned to the land of Nephi" (Mosiah 21:26).
When Zarahemla was thus unexpectedly attacked, a guard was at the "entrance of the city" and the "wall of the city" is first specifically mentioned (Helaman 1:19-27).
In the latter part of verse 27, the term "land of Zarahemla" must mean only the local land about the city, because it is but one of a series of enumerated locations, all of which were contained within the overall "land of Zarahemla" nation.

RPGnet: Review of The Settlers of Zarahemla
The Settlers of Zarahemla is a licensed version of The Settlers of Catan, produced by Uberplay under their Inspiration Games label.
Zarahemla is much more lavishly produced that the Mayfair Games English edition, includes a scoring track, and also chooses to arrange the tiles as 5 strips rather than 19 individual tiles.
However, really, the components of Zarahemla are so much higher quality than those in Canaan (and those of the Mayfair Games Settlers of Catan, for that matter), that I think Zarahemla has become the clear choice for the casual Settlers player, unless they're very price conscious (as Zarahemla is currently $8 more than Canaan).

Meridian Magazine :: Science and Religion :: The Entrance to Zarahemla
The sojourn of the people of Zarahemla in the Olmec/Jaredite lands provides ample explanation for the corruption of their language and the loss of their God reported in Omni.
The probable cultural and historical ties between the people of Zarahemla and the Jaredites (who appear to have been in the Olmec area) comes from both the presence of Jaredite names in Zarahemla and the presence of at least one important Jaredite, Coriantumr.
This suggests that the land of Zarahemla should have cultural associations with the Olmec area, that they would have had a writing system, and that the common spoken language by 160 A.D. would have been Zoque.

Between the Land of Nephi and Zarahemla is what the Nephites called "the narrow strip of wilderness."  This is most likely a tortuous mountain chain that impedes travel and is easy to become confused and lost in.
Thus, they had the word of God.  Their language and their belief systems were intact.  In contrast, the people of Zarahemla had no records, and their language had become corrupted.
No wonder the Nephites in Zarahemla were anxious to know what had become of the people in the Land of Nephi.  Like Amaleki, they may have had kin among them.

It is interesting that he characterizes those in Zarahemla as being in a “state of dilemma.” This would appear to indicate that Alma understands that there are multiple options of how these people might lead their lives, and that he also understands the attractiveness of the other option.
