Zaraysk is a town in (additional info and facts about Moscow Region) Moscow Region, (A federation in northeastern Europe and northern Asia; formerly Soviet Russia; since 1991 an independent state) Russia, center of the Zaraysky district, which is situated about 100 km south from Moscow.
Zaraysk stands on the right bank of the Osetr river (right confluent of (additional info and facts about Oka river) Oka river).

Zaraysk (Russian: Зарайск) is a town in Moscow Region, Russia, center of the Zaraysky district, which is situated about 100 km south from Moscow.
In those times Zaraysk was one of the fortresses, appearing as a part of the Great Abatis Border - a fortified line of felled trees, barricades, fortresses, ditches etc., which were build by Russians as a protection against the Mongolo-Tatars hordes.
In the 1531 a stone citadel (kremlin) was built on a place of the former wooden citadel.

Zaraysk was founded prior to 13th century, first as a part of Ryazan' principality.
Between 17th and the beginning of 19th centuries Zaraysk established itself as an important trade center, but lost its significance in the second half of 19th century, when the highway and the railroad from Moscow to Ryazan' and further South bypassed the town.

It represents the artistic expressiveness of the created object, a high level of expertise and naturalism, but it is also very notable for its size (16 cm long) and, no less important, the fact that it has a stratified context.
