Over 6,000 houses have been flooded and about 300 houses are heavily destroyed in the worst affected districts of Neftchala, Salyan, Sabirabad, Imishli, Zardab, Kurdamir, and Ali Bayramli.
Based on the weather forecast for this week, the situation might deteriorate as the level of the Kura river, which has increased above the normal at some places reaching 2 meters, will increase by another 30-50 centimeters, as well provoke the mud flows.

Persistent heavy downpours and snow have caused the Kura and Araz rivers, the biggest in Azerbaijan, to flood.
As a result, 11 districts have been affected by flooding and landslides, the worst being in Salyan, Neftchala, Sabirabad, Zardab, Ali Bayramly and Kurdamir (in the south-east of Azerbaijan).
Two elderly people - in Muganganjali and Sabirabad regions - have died from shock.

The IDSMIP would support development of Azerbaijan's water user associations (WUAs) and finance rehabilitation of associated small-scale on-farm imgation and dramage infrastructure.
The infrastructure improvements will be made on a demand-driven basis on the farms of WUAs that meet certain eligibility criteria in the project area raions in Azerbaijan (Khachmaz, Aghjabedi, limshli, Sabirabad, Saatli, Zardab, Geranboy) and in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan (Babek, Sharur).
Some associated off-farm infrastructure improvements (including the rehabilitation of Bahramtepe headworks) will be made to ensure effective delivery of water to the rehabilitated on-farm systems.
