Zastava in 2004 enters its fiftieth year of automobile production, much in need of a foreign partner to rescue it from circumstances not all of its own making.
Zastava's problems have not always been of its own making, and - like the American buying public in 1986 - we sympathize with the underdog; particularly, it must be said, in an era of corporate mergers and mass attempts for short-term profit with the most prestigious of brands.
Zastava produced 8,800 cars in the first half of 2000, the last set of figures we were able to obtain.

Posted - 04/05/2004 : 10:05:38 AM The Zastava 70 as it is imported currently is a.32ACP pistol with a reputation as a well-made and reliable pistol.
Pistol was nicely made and I was interested in getting one until I noticed one thing that bothered me. When the hammer is not cocked it blocks the sights so it is impossible to sight down the barrel unless gun is cocked.
FWIW, the felt recoil on the converted Zastava is less than the felt recoil in the Makarov, due to the slightly heavier pistol weight, and the under barrel recoil spring design.
