Zatarc detector (Stargate) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1, a zatarc detector is an advanced lie detector used by the Tok'ra for screening people who have been the subject of Goa'uld mind control technology and become unknowing sleeper agents (called "zatarcs").
The zatarc detector works by comparing the subconscious and conscious memory of a person, because the Goa'uld use false memories to cover the zatarc programming.
The person being interrogated can be asked any question (not just a yes/no question) and the detector can determine if the recalled memory is true or false, even if the person does not realize it himself.

That would explain Zatarc's attitude toward me. She seems to believe that the grudge she's holding against me is completely justified.
Zatarc initially was very nice to me. She had considerable interest in me and my art projects and was an all-around good person and such.
Nevertheless, Zatarc continued to ignore me. By April of 2003, I explained to Zatarc that I found her "grow up" remark very offensive -- as if she were telling me how to live.

 Astor - StargateWiki
The zatarc's programming would be triggered by a visual or auditory signal and there was no stopping him/her until the target was eliminated.
If the zatarc felt that he/she could not accomplish the goal of the programming, he/she would commit suicide, usually resulting in the destruction of the zatarc's body so that the programming could not be detected in an autopsy.
Anise declared Lt.Astor a zatarc and offered her the choice as to whether or not she wanted to undergo the procedure to remove the programming.

She brought her zatarc detector to the SGC to screen everyone who would be at the summit.
While it successfully detected that SG-14 member Lieutenant Astor was a zatarc, it also falsely identified Jack O'Neill and Samantha Carter as zatarcs, and they were put in holding cells.

If it's so hard to detect a zatarc, how can Anise be so sure they've only been a problem for two months?
(Ahem — ever heard of a false positive?) You'd think they'd be at least a little skeptical, considering that regular lie detector tests (which the zatarc detector is most like) are still not admissible in courts in the U.S. As Sam so eloquently put it at one point, "It's all based on assumptions, isn't it?"
