The word "zegota" was used as a code name for a group of Polish Catholics who, in the midst of WWII, saved thousands of lives working as an underground railroad for Jews and other assorted outcasts under the tyranny of Nazi Germany.
The volunteers involved with zegota put themselves at great risk by hiding out the persecuted in their homes, feeding them, clothing them, preparing false papers for them, and scraping up whatever money they could spare to aid in the fight for freedom.
When we started this band, we were wide-eyed with optimism, ready to fucking destroy this world with explosive music and honest expression.

After their US tour in winter of 2002, Zegota took some time off for their guitarist, Jon, to concentrate on raising his newborn child in Sweden.
Zegota reformed during the summer of 2003 in Stockholm, and played shows in northern Europe through the fall, before coming to play a few shows in the Northeastern USA around New Year’s.
In the times between band activity, the drummer has spent time studying music in Africa, the bassist has been squatting in Amsterdam, the singer has been involved in direct action and activism in the USA, and the guitarist has been raising a child, working as a carpenter, and playing folk music in Sweden.

I would suggest to anyone who is not interested in ideas, to avoid all CrimethInc bands, as we all are working to bring life and passion and revolution to every show we play and every song we write, and that means that some discussion of ideas is going to be a part of the process.
Bands to avoid therefore, for the people who would like hardcore shows to be like mindless television rather than revolution are: Catharsis, Zegota, Timebomb, Ire, and Trial.
I fully support and endorse all of the bands, publications, and passions emanating from that group of people, and encourage others to get in touch with them/us as well to find out what we are up to.

Requiem "Storm Heaven" CD Formed from the wreckage of other bands (cough, Catharsis, cough -Ed.) that set out to rescue the world from Western civilization only to end in ashes and defeat, Requiem has refused to record anything until now lest they perpetuate the commodity-oriented stupor that mires the would-be revolutionary underground in verbose inactivity.
On it, they live up to every bit of promise shown in their previous recordings and performances, delivering a well-crafted eight-song, forty-minute adventure constructed with the rawest of vocals, wall-like guitars, delicate piano and organ sections, drum beats like the heartbeat of an escaped hostage and an unrestrained bass sound to hold it all together.
Zegota / Movement in the Music CD Zegota and a few bands like them are the life's blood of the next generation of hardcore: their music is anthemic and soulful, cutting edge, innovative enough to sound like no other band; their lyrics are political and passionate, filled with sincerity and youthful idealism.

The true test of any band's mettle is their ability to impress during a live performance.
Zegota, a Greensboro-based band about to depart for an indefinite stay in Sweden, did just that as they played their second-to-last US show last Thursday evening at Gate City Noise on Tate Street.
The band, according to longtime fan, junior Nate Rose, is "the best eclectic hardcore band in the Southeast." The group wisely decided to cater their show to the whole audience, playing standard favorites and more mainstream selections.

Indeed, in a leaflet she published in September 1942 titled "Protest," Kossack wrote that the Jews were the enemies of the Polish people but that Poles could not stand by and watch the Jews murdered by the Germans.
Zegota, which had a branch in Krakow (headed by Stanislaw Dobrowolski), also smuggled food into the Plaszow labor camp and, later, into Oskar Schindler's factory in Brunnlitz, Czechoslovakia.
