This claim is certainly true on November 1 and 2 when tens of thousands of Viennese decorate graves of their dearly departed, listen to the bands, and enjoy the brilliant fall foliage while newly arrived flocks of migrating rooks from Siberia dance in the wind above.

As you might expect from a city with a rich artistic background, the Zentralfriedhof houses many famous names, including Beethoven.

Wiener Zentralfriedhof - The Authors   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Its impressiveness lies not only in its extraordinary size, but also in the fact that the Zentralfriedhof mirrors a part of Austrian history - there are the graves of famous Austrian composers, politicians, actors, etc., there are the old parts and those still in use, there is a Christian part and a (especially picturesque) Jewish one.
The Wiener Zentralfriedhof itself seems to be special to many Viennese (there are even songs about it), maybe this is one of the reasons that the Viennese people are said to be fairly morbid and obsessed with death and dying (which is not quite true IMO).
Among the things which make the Wiener Zentralfriedhof so unique is the variety of the graves, from over a hundred years old to new, in addition to the Christian section there is the Jewish section etc.
