Zerg - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
The Zerg have been said to be similar in appearance and behavior to the Tyranids of Warhammer 40,000 as well as the 'bugs' of Starship Troopers and the Xenomorphs of the Alien movies (in fact the Zerg were referred to as Xenomorphs in an early demo version).
The Zerg did not know the exact location of Aiur, homeworld of the Protoss, but they were able to travel towards it, adding new species (such as the Mutalisk and Zergling) to the Swarm along the way.
The Zerg were surprised at the Terran response, and were defeated by a sudden attack by the Protoss, led by Executor Tassadar.

The toughest aspect of Zerg is generally thought to be knowing when to use your larvae to build more drones (in order to strengthen your economy for the long term) vs. when to use them to make more units (for defence and offence in the short term).
Also, all Zerg structures except for the Hatchery and Extractor (which is restricted to construction over a Vespene geyser) must be built on a thick, spongy purplish-brown material known as the "creep." Creep Colonies are needed to extend the creep to allow the manifestation of other Zerg structures.
Zerg players have a bit of an advantage against Protoss, due to the fact that Protoss have no reliable early scout (Probes die in two hits from Sunken Colony, Corsairs are a bit late, and Zealots have a hard time making it into a good Zerg's base).

Zerg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Zerg are a vaguely insectoid race in the fictional StarCraft universe.
The Zerg then devoted their energies to seeking out the powerful Protoss in the hope of absorbing them into the Swarm, uniting purity of form and of essence, and to optimize the evolutionary possibilities for his species.
The Zerg did not know the exact location of Aiur, homeworld of the Protoss, but they were able to travel towards it, adding new species (such as the Mutalisk and Zergling) to the Swarm from various planetary genepools along the way.

Zerg: Burrowing The Zerg's main strength is it's ability to burrow underground, making it undetectable to the Terran forces unless they have a Science Vessel or Missle Turret nearby.
The Zergs have Spore Colonies as well as Underground Colonies as the two buildings that can detect cloaked units, and their sole moveable unit that can detected cloaked units are their Overlords.
Zerg: Bombardment The Zerg equivalent to Siege Tanks are air units, which have Air to Surface capabilities, but little else.

Since all airborne units possess ranged attacks, Dark Swarm is a particularly effective tool against an attack from the air when you place Hydralisks under the cloud.

Zerg Overmind - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
The Zerg Overmind, sometimes known simply as the Overmind, is a character in the Starcraft universe.
The Overmind is a colossal and brain-like Zerg entity of an indeterminate age and level of alien intelligence, which within the original Starcraft storyline stated to have "borne witness to the passing of countless millennia".
This assimilation would unite the purity of essence the Zerg were given with the purity of form the Protoss were blessed with, resulting in the creation of a totally "perfect" and eternally dominant species with the potential to change the nature of the Universe forever.

Against Zerg, one must expand much more quickly than against other races, since a completed Hatchery means more units (via the extra factory) and stronger ones (via expanded Creep and associated building benefits).
Strangely, in Zerg vs. Zerg, high-tech units tend to take a back seat to churning out a standard military and strengthening their attack power.

Walnut is technically an agent of an ancient race of creatures in the D.D. Worlds, known as the Zerg, a biological mass of creatures whose sole purpose is the consumption of worlds and the procreation of their species underneath the ruling voice of the Overmind (think Kerrigan from Star Craft).
The Zerg had done well to select a G.H.O.S.T. as another Agent to the Swarm, because it was their knack for breaking into places and assassinating individuals with complete silence and skill.
Like his Zerg brothers and sisters, he is capable of regenerating wounds and injuries over a certain period of time, and can even regenerate quicker (it is believed) while he is underground.
