Since that 15th century Cetinje was a seat of rullers and bishops of Montenegro, later on the capital of dukedom then Kingdom of Montenegro, later of Zetska banovina (Zeta province in former Kingdom of Yugoslavia), and after WW2 for a short period the capital of the Republic of Montenegro.
Cetinje was also the seat ofthe Montenegrin Ortodox Church and the center of the organized resistance against the Turks, thus becaming the symbol of Montenegrin struggle for independence.
In Cetinje head north of town center in direction of Njegusi, but in NW part of Cetinje be ready to turn left to a branch off road.
