Members of the Chinese fiddle family (huqin) larger than the zhonghu have not proven to be very successful and have for the most part been abandoned in Chinese orchestras.
A dahu, a little larger than a zhonghu, that I played on several years ago was much less enjoyable in terms of tone and response.
I'm thinking of getting a Zhonghu but only if it is possible to learn from home, from books,cd's or dvd's.
