Zhongzheng District (中正區, Wade-Giles: Chung-cheng, Tongyong Pinyin: Jhongjheng) is the home of the most of the national government buildings of the Republic of China.
This district of Taipei City is named after Chiang Kai-shek.
The district has many cultural and educational sites including the Botanical Gardens, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the National Museum of History, the Taiwan Museum, the National Central Library, the 228-Memorial Park, the National Theater, and the National Concert Hall.

Xinyi District (信義區, Wade-Giles: Hsin-yi, Tongyong Pinyin: Sinyi) is the seat of the Taipei mayor's office and the Taipei city council.
Much of the district use to be wetlands, explaining the abundance of space for construction projects as this was one of the last places in Taipei to be developed.

The area enclosed by the walls, known to most foreigners as the Taipei station area, was known Chengzhong (城中), or "within the walls," until only as recently as 26 years ago.
The new district was named Zhongzheng, or "The Centered and the Legitimate," in honor of Chiang Kai-shek and the monstrous new monument his son had erected in his memory.
The new monument was built on the site of a shantytown for refugees from China, so the new district not only erased Chengzhong and Guting from the map, but also began the process of removing Pai's "Taipei people" - the mainlander influx of 1949.

Somebody once said that after 1945, the government merged six districts, which were named Zhao-he-Ting (昭和町), Jin-Ting (錦町), Dong-men-Ting (東門町), Da-an-Zhuang (大安庄), Liu-zhang-li-Zhuang (六張犁庄), Fu-zhu-Ting (福住町) during the Japanese Occupation into one administrative district and named it Daan.
Later it was renamed Daan due to its sound and better meaning (peace and happiness) in Chinese.
