Zigmond (Ziggy) Palffy was born on May 4, 1972 in Skalica, Slovakia.
Ziggy got off to a quick start but retired mid-way through the season as the Penguins struggled and he decided to get married.
In 1999-June-20 Palffy was traded from New York Islanders with Marcel Cousineau (G) and Bryan Smolinski and 4th round pick in the 1999 draft (Daniel Johansson) to the Los Angeles Kings for Josh Green and Olli Jokinen and Mathieu Biron and the first pick in the 1999 draft (Taylor Pyatt).

Zigmund Palffy (born May 5, 1972 in Skalica, Czechoslovakia- now Slovakia) is a Slovak ice hockey player, currently playing for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League.
He was drafted by New York Islanders in the 2nd round of the 1991 NHL Draft and has played for two NHL teams: Islanders (from 1993 to 1999) and Los Angeles Kings (from 1999 till now).
Palffy has represented both Slovakia and Czechoslavakia in international competitions, winning Gold Medal with Slovakia in 2002 World Championships.

A Slovak newspaper, however, quoted Palffy as saying he had quit because of lingering problems with his right shoulder, which had been surgically repaired twice after he was injured while playing in Los Angeles.
