  Zinc - LoveToKnow 1911
Metallurgy The principles underlying the extraction of zinc may be summarized as: (I) the ore is first converted into zinc oxide; (2) the oxide is distilled with carbon and the distillate of metallic zinc condensed.
Zinc blende, however, being zinc sulphide, is not directly reducible by charcoal; but it is easy to convert it into oxide by roasting: the sulphur goes off as sulphur dioxide whilst the zinc remains in the (infusible) form of oxide, ZnO.
Zinc oxide, ZnO, is maufactured for paint by two processes - directly from the ore mixed with coal by volatilization on a grate, as in the Wetherill oxide process, and by oxidizing the vapour given off by a boiling bath of zinc metal.

Zinc, Zn, is a transition metallic element found in Group IIb of the periodic table.
Zinc in the presence of dilute acid is a powerful reducing agent, probably due to Nascent Hydrogen, H*, liberated in the reaction being a better reducing agent than hydrogen gas.
Zinc is detected by heating the material with sodium carbonate on a charcoal block when the zinc oxide produced is coloured yellow when hot and white when cold.

 Zinc and salts (PIM G020)
Zinc has a standard electrode potential of +0.761 and is thus electropositive to most structural metals except aluminium and magnesium, which is the basis for its use in batteries and electrogalvanising of steel.
Zinc sulphate is used in agriculture and zinc phosphide as a rodenticide (the toxic effects of zinc phosphide are principally due to the release of phosphine).
Zinc is distributed widely throughout the body and is excreted in the faeces with only traces appearing in the urine, since the kidneys have little or no role in regulating the content of zinc in the body.

ZINC - Online Information article about ZINC
Zinc oxide is used in the arts as a white pigment (zinc white) ; it has not by any means the covering power of white lead, but offers the advantages of being non-poisonous and of not becoming discoloured in sulphuretted hydrogen.
A solution of zinc chloride is easily produced from the metal and hydrochloric acid; it cannot be evaporated to dryness without considerable decomposition of the hydrated salt into oxychloride and hydrochloric acid, but it may be crystallized as ZnCl2•H2O.
Zinc carbonate, ZnCO3, occurs in nature as the mineral calamine (q.v.), but has never been prepared artificially, basic carbonates, ZnCO3.xZn(OH)2, where x is variable, being obtained by precipitating a solution of the sulphate or chloride with sodium carbonate.

 zinc
Zinc can be obtained by roasting its ores to form the oxide and by reduction of the oxide with coal or carbon, with subsequent distillation of the metal.
Zinc is not considered to be toxic, but when freshly formed ZnO is inhaled a disorder known as the oxide shakes or zinc chills sometimes occurs.
Zinc poisoning is mostly accidental from the intake of pesticides, inadvertent therapeutic use of heavy doses of zinc salts, or drinking of acidic juices or brews made in galvanized iron utensils.

The root and tip ribs are made of aluminum as are the rear spar and the short front spar which transmit the torsion and drag forces into the fuselage.
Since these spars consist of two machined channels and two shear webs which are riveted together, it is necessary to slosh them with a rubber sealing compound which comes with the kit.
Use a 6' scale or metal strip held under the skin overhang against the rear spar flange to accurately measure the correct distance of the drill guide from the edge of the rear spar.
