		Asides from the science fiction in Zipang's characteristic, costumed universe, the one striking element that would hold the viewer's attention the whole way through is the variation in camera flourishes married with an affluent visual style.
		Zipang itself was popular enough to inspire a venture into the video game market with a Playstation 2 release by Konami.
		Battle Royale spilt gallons of fake/CGI blood (especially by the time its Special Edition was released) but Zipang made a point of minimising on the gushing red symbolic in films such as the Lone Wolf and Cub series, which ironically might disappoint some viewers.

		Zipang has a winning combination mixing old Japanese fantasy elements with high technology creating a world of is own, who said that samurais and guns don't do great together.
		Well, maybe that Zipang doesn't look very impressive at first sight but all the set and gear that are used in the movie are very ingenious and imaginative.
		Of course Zipang is not a movie to take seriously but it is a movie who doesn't suffer from the cheesiness that these types of movies usually have.

		The sword is whipped from the grasp of Jigoku by the leader of a couple of hundred flying ninja's, and he, along with Yuri and the sword are magically whisked off into the world of Zipang, and brought face to face with it's bitter golden God, and his imprisoned queen.
		Yuri meets the queen and in return for being freed by her is asked to pass on a necklace to her recently resurrected lover in an effort to reunite them.
		The golden God of Zipang (who killed the queens' lover a 1000 years ago) is unable to understand the meaning or the power of "human love" and decides to stomp all over this plan, as he did a thousand years ago.

		Unless there is a larger theme at work (as with a movie like Gojoe or even the John Woo loyalty/violence epics), the violence is largely a joke.
		I wonder if many people got the joke with Zipang, which sends up and mocks chanbara and Japanese samurai-movie conventions at the same time it invokes them.
		It's the absolute flipside of Gojoe, which was as somber and brutal as Zipang is just plain wild fun.

		With our two-year-olds in tow, we trooped into Sushi Bar Zipang, a sleekly contemporary Bridgeland eatery whose prime focal point is, what else, a sushi bar in all its fishy glory.

		Even though the plot is stripped down it all works well which is a good thing as these nuttier jidai geki (period films) can often fall apart with poor pacing and incoherent plotting.
