Zlatorog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Slovenian legend of Zlatorog (goldhorn), the white chamois buck (steinbock, ibex, capricorn), who had his realm in the heights of Mount Triglav, is well known in the entire region of Slovenia, in both Slovenian Carinthia and Austrian Carinthia, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Zlatorog had golden horns and lived in a fancy garden on the mountain.
Zlatorog was injured and his blood ran for miles, carving out the mountains and lakes of the Triglav National Park.

 Zlatorog and his golden horns
The oft-told tale of Zlatorog, the mythical chamois with the golden horns who lived on Mt Triglav and guarded its treasure, almost always involves some superhuman (or, in this case, super-antelopine) feat that drastically changed the face of the mountain.
The Zlatorog story first appeared in the LaibacherZeitung (Ljubijana Gazette) in 1868 during a period of Romanticism and national awakening.
Zlatorog roamed the valley (at that time a beautiful garden) with the White Ladies, good fairies who kept the mountain pastures green and helped humans whenever they found them in need.
