Zodiac, an Eco-Thriller by Neal Stephenson
The book Zodiac, which reads more like fiction than science fiction, is set in the 1980s and is told from the point of view of Sangamon Taylor, S. T., a long-haired, environmentalist activist with GEE International, a fictional organization that seems to be based on Greenpeace.
Sangamon rides around the Boston on his bicycle, and on the water in a Zodiac, an inflatable raft with a outboard motor.

The zodiac (from Greek zoon, "animal") is an imaginary belt in the heavens extending approximately 8 degrees on either side of the Sun's apparent path (the ecliptic), that includes the apparent paths of the Moon and the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
In western tropical astrology, the zodiacal year begins at the point where the plane of the ecliptic intersects with the earth's equatorial plane at the vernal equinox.
The "tropical" zodiacal dates (those that divide the zodiac starting with the vernal equinox) are used primarily in the United States and western Europe.

 Zodiac by Neal Stephenson
Zodiac is set in Boston, and hero Sangamon Taylor (S. T.) ironically describes his hilarious exploits in the first person.
This novel is the metaphysical opposite of Henry Miller's "Crazy Cock." That novel was a game first attempt by the author who ultimately carved a niche for himself using the first person narrative.
This novel is the exact opposite of Crazy Cock in that Stephenson has written from the first person perspective, which is in tension with his greatest strengths as a writer.

A novel based on both the Zodiac and Highway 101 murders of the San Francisco Bay Area, Suspect Zero sticks to the facts and presents information in such an effective way you'll swear you're reading a work of pure true crime.

It would be easy to mistake Zodiac for a crime novel, were it not for the flashy futuristic cover, and that it resides in SCI FI section of bookshops.
Detective fiction is often written to the formula that is: society breaks down as a crime occurs, an outsider (the detective/loner) comes and solves the crime and society is harmonised, the outsider returns to his/her present state.
This is Stephen Donaldson's first novel and whilst it doesn't have the breath and inventiveness of Diamond Age and Snow Crash it's a hugely enjoyable read and very clever too; Zodiac, like its namesake, is fast, sassy and un-deflatable.

 Zodiac - Neal Stephenson
The Zodiac of the title (not the world's greatest title, by the way) refers to the small boats (with big motors) that GEE uses for many of their anti-pollution actions.
Stephenson sets up the novel very, very well, and the first big action and Taylor's day-to-day life make for an excellent half-novel, fast and very funny.
After his novel about academia, The Big U, he wrote "the Eco-thriller" Zodiac and then began writing true science fiction, with which he has had great success.

One could say that after trying the "random drop" theory with not-Saddam, and having it also fail, they decided instead to create a new Scorpio, one who was more in tune with their goals, and less likely to leave it in a lab or closet.

Similarly, a science-fiction novel loaded with these gadgets wouldn't be credible, and by couching his speculations in simili-reality, Rucker knows how to present them.

Each Zodiac letter to one another to indicate which of the Z letters more closely matches the other, thus ruling out of the experiment, through stylometry, possible non-Z letters or "unconfirmed" letters such as the Citizen letter, Bates letter, etc.
In other words, when stylometry is used to identify authorship of novels or formal written works, I would think that comparison would be done through use of other "known" formal and/or similar works of the author or authors attempting to be identified.
Allen's sample was a short, informal letter to a friend; Kaczynski's was a formally written document of persuasion; whereas, it appears that you took all Zodiac correspondences (not just the "known" ones) and lumped them into one creating a document large enough for testing purposes.
