  Zodiac - MSN Encarta
Zodiac, imaginary belt in the celestial sphere, extending about 8° on either side of the ecliptic, the apparent path of the Sun among the stars.
The width of the zodiac was determined originally so as to include the orbits of the Sun and Moon and of the five planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) that were known to the people of ancient times.
The names of the zodiacal signs are Aries, the Ram; Taurus, the Bull; Gemini, the Twins; Cancer, the Crab; Leo, the Lion; Virgo, the Virgin; Libra, the Balance; Scorpio, the Scorpion; Sagittarius, the Archer; Capricorn, the Goat; Aquarius, the Water Bearer; and Pisces, the Fishes.

DevASP Zodiac Book - 0425098087   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
The book details the case of the "Zodiac" killer that was active in San Francisco in the 1960's.
Any book has to have the tiniest bit of story telling to recreate scenes unless you were personally there for each murder which isn't the case for all historic books.
This book is a classic and wouldn't be in its 37th printing and being made into a movie this year if wasn't thought of highly by many.

Kevin S. Forsyth's book recommendations: Zodiac
One is that the book is awfully predictable.
In the book, the mathematician Malcolm (played in the film by Jeff Goldblum) is bitten by a dinosaur early on and spends the rest of the story in a feverish delirium, ranting at length about chaos theory, genetics, and the dangers of human hubris when playing with those things.
The whole book would be reduced to a cool boat chase involving S.T.'s Zodiac and a high-speed Cigarette boat, and a lot of gunplay at the end.

Amazon.ca: This is the Zodiac Speaking : Into the Mind of a Serial Killer: Books: Michael Kelleher   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Having researched the Zodiac case since 1987(zodiacmurders.com) I would say his book is a crisp tight narrative that fully lays out the case with exactness as he makes the story interesting while giving the reader a multi-faceted view into all aspects of the killers mind and criminal activities.
It denies that Zodiac intentionally created a Z around the city when he did his crimes, the author stating it was more a connect-the-dots connection that was weak by any stretch of the imagination.Another popular theory was that Zodiac only killed near water.
The book paints a picture of an exceptionally cold-hearted killer whose propensity for violence was surpassed only by his incredible ability to play the media and to constantly adapt and evolve, a tactic that allowed him to stay several steps ahead of the police at all times.

Astrology on the Web: The Zodiac
The Zodiac ("Circle of Animals") is the name given to the band of the ecliptic encircling the earth.
The Zodiac forms the stellar backdrop for the apparent path of the Sun, called the plane of the ecliptic.
Because they seem to be orbiting the Earth, the stars and planets rise in the east, move around the earth from east to west, then set in the west (due to the earth's rotation from west to east).

A lot of folks have noted the similarities between the UNABOM and Zodiac cases, but Oswell and Rusconi were among the first to offer a detailed comparison of the two, as well as a point-by-point indictment of Ted Kaczynski as the prolific Bay Area killer.
Their Zodiac case history is remarkably thoughtful and objective, considering that they're proposing a suspect, and a lot of their speculations and hypotheses will make you think twice about dismissing Ted out of hand.

Zodiac is described on the cover blurb as an 'eco-thriller', and for a change the blurb is close to being accurate.
The book's main character is an ecological-crime detective, busily hunting down evidence of corporations illegally dumping hazardous waste and using publicity stunts and clogging up discharge pipes with cement as his main weapons against these companies.
The book takes on a decided thriller aspect with the introduction of gene-tailored bacteria, designed to 'eat' contaminates, but there is a variety that generates them instead.

Amazon.com: Zodiac Unmasked: The Identity of America's Most Exclusive Serial Killer: Books: Robert Graysmith   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
He states that because the Zodiac was not demonstrably out of town or incapacitated during any one of the murders, he must have been present at the crime scenes.
His writing was much tighter and clearer in the first book, leaving one to wonder whether he perhaps had help with the first book, or otherwise rushed the second book to publication.
This book is a complete waste of time to everyone in the world: If you want to know the historical truth of the Zodiac murders, this book is to be avoided.

 Zodiac - Neal Stephenson
The Zodiac of the title (not the world's greatest title, by the way) refers to the small boats (with big motors) that GEE uses for many of their anti-pollution actions.
The book begins with one fairly standard anti-dumping action that GEE undertakes in New Jersey, and it is a rollicking start.
One problem is that a lot of the book deals with unpleasant, toxic chemicals, and Stephenson is very good at bringing these and their effects to life -- admirable, of course, but also stomach-turning.

Stephenson is an author I always enjoy (with the exception of his third book in his Baroque Cycle series), and I certainly enjoyed Zodiac.
What also makes this book a good book is its nonconformist attitude in how the main character, S.T., is perceived (after all, he did use something like five illegal drugs throughout the book and had no qualms about going home and getting drunk for a while; not your typical main character).
This goes throughout the book, riddling the chapters with misspelled words that distract the reader.

Zodiac, an Eco-Thriller by Neal Stephenson
The book Zodiac, which reads more like fiction than science fiction, is set in the 1980s and is told from the point of view of Sangamon Taylor, S. T., a long-haired, environmentalist activist with GEE International, a fictional organization that seems to be based on Greenpeace.
The central conflict of the book was resolved much sooner than I expected, leaving the last portion of the novel for assessing blame, which I found hard to care about.
The Baroque Cycle books, which are loosely connected to Cyptonomicon, doorstopper sized, and more mainstream fiction than genre science fiction are: Quicksilver (2003), The Confusion (2004), and System of the World (2004).
