Zoltán Ribli (born September 6, 1951 in Mohács) is a Hungarian chess grandmaster and three times national champion.
Whilst not so active in tournament play in the 1990s and 2000s, Ribli has maintained a very competitive rating (his July 2006 elo rating was 2589) and has shown that he can still win grandmaster events, such as the Hotal Opatija tournament in Kastav, Croatia 2002.
Zoltan Ribli is married to Woman International Master, Maria Grosch.

CHESS: GRABBING A PAWN PAYS OFF FOR RIBLI AT REGGIO EMILIA - New York Times
Ribli was alert to the chance to seize a pawn and, with precise defense, made it pay off in his encounter with Mihai Suba of Rumania.
According to Ribli, after 18...O-O, Suba might have tried 19 Q-K4, Q-Q2; 20 N-Q4, KR-K1; 21 NxP, N-B2; 22 N-B5, RxQ; 23 NxQ, RxP, but Black's advantage is clear, especially since 24 N-B5, P-QN3; 25 N-K4, R-K1; 26 P-B3, P-B4; 27 N-Q6, R-Q1 is tremendous for Black.
Ribli never got the chance for his crushing attack - Suba overstepped the time limit and was forfeited.

Zoltan Ribli has written an article on this variation which arises after the moves 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 dxc4 5.e4 Bb4 6.Bg5 c5 7.Bxc4 cxd4 8.Nxd4 Bxc3+ 9.bxc3 Qa5 10.Bb5+ Bd7 11.Bxf6 gxf6 12.Qb3 0-0 13.0-0.
In his analysis Ribli, substantiated with 20 meticulously annotated games, comes to the following conclusion: “This variation is not so popular, because there are several chances for Black to avoid it — instead of 10...Bd7 the alternative 10...Nbd7 is more popular and on move 12 instead of 12...0-0 players more often try 12...a6.
GM Ribli explains: “Black has an extra pawn, but his King is vulnerable in the centre of the board, whereas White can rapidly mobilize his pieces (especially the Rooks and the Queen).

Zoltan Ribli was born on the 6th of September 1951 in Mohacs, Hungary.
For most of his career, Zoltan and his bubble-wrapped homies were so busy looking for the continuum transfunctioner that he often needed to leave his games early and took quick draws.
Eventually he got so good at this that he was able to do it against the best, while keeping his groupies entertained at his parent's barn.
