Zoltan earned a Bronze medal in the 1963 Accordion World Championship in Baden Baden, West Germany and won first prize in the highly competitive and popular Hungarian TV talent show (Ki mit tud) in 1964.
In 1970 Zoltan moved to the United States, lived in Bronx, NY and was engaged to play at several Manhattan East-side establishments both as a solo accordionist and with the orchestra of the famous gypsy violinist Elmer Horvath.

Though the title indicates this is music of Hungary and Romania, the style to my ears is of the Hungarian orchestra, and two of the numbers are actually old Russian Romani folk songs; "Dark Eyes" and "Two Guitars".
Zoltan is a forename and that is the only name given on this disc.
Furthermore, the performances maintain a certain "rawness" that I feel is lost in the virtuosity of recordings of "ciganyzene" from Hungary made in the 25 years.

This group (though as unknown to me as native Hungarian as a group playing Tibeti music would be) is playing something called cigányzene (it translates really to Gipsymusic, but...), which is (was) played by gipsy musicians, but it is not the same type of music (nomadic or semi-nomadic) gipsies would like.
In case you would come to Hungary where you're to attend a "romantic Hungarian dinner with gipsy music", means this type of music, but the quality will be inferior to this CD.
