Cold Fusion Video Reviews: White Zombie
Whatever praise White Zombie is worthy of comes almost entirely from the fact that Bela Lugosi stars in a script that's content to let his presence provide most of the thrills, with a director who's content to point the camera at him.
This isn't an entirely drug-based version of the zombie myth; in addition to the powder, Legendre also performs a little voodoo ritual outside the house during the post-nuptial dinner, using a wax candle carved into a human shape and a scarf he lifted from the couple's coach when he first encountered them on the road.
Which is why he's dashing toward the cemetery, screaming her name, when Beaumont, Legendre, and his zombie posse (just for fun, he makes his zombified former enemies follow him around for grunt work) show up to reclaim her body.

Zombie Powder GN 1 - Review - Anime News Network
His life changes completely when Gamma Akutabi, a notorious criminal with a massive bounty on his head, comes to town looking for the mythical 12 Rings of the Dead, which when combined are said to allow the owner to make Zombie Powder, a substance that can grant immortality or bring the dead back to life.
Graphic content, action, and a sometimes-playful attitude are about the only things Zombie Powder has to offer, though, as little about the first volume distinguishes it from other titles centered on a bad-ass anti-hero who acquires a kid as a tag-along or protégé.
Even the mix of playfulness and ultra-graphic content is borrowed from Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita (although Zombie Powder emphasizes the playfulness much more), as are weapons with jet boosters to make their swing faster and stronger and oversized chain saws.

IGN: Zombie Powder Vol. 1 Review
The quest for the powder is interesting, but we're not sure at this stage whether a powder that returns the dead to life is particularly beneficial…I mean, there's just something about that word "zombie", you know?
Elwood, for example, was named for the head of a country music record label, and indeed, there's a real Western feel to this book, despite the arcane zombie powder and the mixture of high- and low-tech weaponry.
At the end of the day, Zombie Powder is no better or worse that many other Shonen titles like it.

 TangognaT » Zombie Powder
Zombie Powder is Tite Kubo’s earlier series and after sampling the first volume, I can understand why it only lasted for three more books.
In Zombie Powder Elwood is basically helpless and Gamma is so powerful and self-assured that I didn’t see either of them working towards gaining new abilities or growing much as characters.
Kubo’s art and layouts aren’t as innovative as they are in Bleach, and Zombie Powder just seems like so much of a journeyman effort that I’d only recommend it for Kubo completists.

Though I’m not entirely well-versed in Kubo’s more popular series, Bleach, it seems to me that Zombie Powder has a bit more going for it.
It’s a poor example of padding out a volume with unnecessary extra material, and while it doesn’t detract from the quality of Zombie Powder, it certainly feels like a bit of a raw deal.
Unlike Bleach, it seems Zombie Powder will wrap up within a couple or so more volumes.
