Zondervan is an international Christian communications and publishing company, and one of the four companies founded by Dutch-Americans that have made Grand Rapids, Michigan, into the USA's "Christian Publishing Capital", alongside Eerdmans, Baker Books, and Kregel.
Zondervan was founded in 1931 in the suburb of Grandville, by brothers P.J. (Pat) and Bernie Zondervan, who were the nephews of publisher William Eerdmans.
Zondervan also publishes many other books by Christian authors and focusing on topics of interest to Christians, and in the 1970s it produced the best-selling US published book of the decade: The Late Great Planet Earth by controversial writer and evangelist Hal Lindsey.

Zondervan executives say the entertainment magazine was key in its $1 million campaign to reach young adults who have rarely, if ever, seen Bible ads before.
Although Zondervan bought the space in July for a February ad, magazine executives first saw the actual copy only last week and concluded that "it doesn't quite feel right in the magazine," said Kent Brownridge, general manager of Wenner Media, parent company of Rolling Stone.
Zondervan marketing vice president Doug Lockhart said offers to change the ad text were refused and Rolling Stone would not show them a written policy ruling out religious advertising.

We are not aware that Zondervan has given any public statement as to explain the apparent inconsistency of being part of a company that produces the Holy Bible and the Satanic Bible for profit.

Zondervan Publishing House has come a long way from its founding in 1931, when two brothers, Bernie and Pat Zondervan, decided to sell books from their mother's farmhouse in western Michigan.
Zondervan issued a statement that did not note any factual inaccuracies in WORLD's article but emphasized Zondervan's distinguished history, criticized WORLD's tone and methodology, and stated that "we intend in no way to advance a particular social agenda or stray from the original biblical texts" (see page 17).
The NIrV is described on Zondervan's website merely as "a simplification of the NIV." In a two-page press release announcing that David C. Cook was adopting the NIrV for use in its Bible-in-Life Sunday School materials for younger children beginning in September of 1997, Zondervan made no mention of the version's "gender-accurate" revisions.

Zondervan is taking over the reigns for the 2006 National Pastors Convention (NPC), which has been run by Youth Specialties (YS) in past years.
Since then YS has taken charge of the convention with Zondervan serving as the primary sponsor, up until the most recent NPC event held May. But earlier this year, YS announced its decision to stop its sponsoring role in the NPC and the emergent YS Convention to focus its efforts on helping youth ministry workers.
However, Zondervan said it will look to add a second NPC in the eastern half of the country in 2007.

I understand why Harper Collins Publishing would let Zondervan carry on with the NIV,for it is said that the NIV is the number one selling translation (at least when I worked at 'the christian store').
With this correspondence let me try clarify the nature of the relationship between the two companies and give you some assurance that the Zondervan you know and trust is the same company we have been for over 70 years, meeting the needs of people with resources that glorify Jesus Christ and promote biblical principles.
Zondervan was purchased by HarperCollins in the late 1980's--as I said in my previous message.

For most of my theological studies I use Zondervan's Electronic bible (Pradis 5.0) as it has several different bible translations and commentary, but there is no substitute to a book in your hands, and this is the bible I want in my hands when I'm studying.
I have used the Zondervan King James Cyclopedic Bible for almost thirty years simply because it was the best study Bible that I could find.
