Anxious San Francisco Zoo officials learned Wednesday afternoon that they won't turn into lone wolves or be banished from the herd -- the powerful American Zoo and Aquarium Association has given the facility its accreditation blessing once again after keeping it in limbo for the past year.

Zoos must send in a huge amount of material -- which typically takes six months to prepare -- and an AZA team spends months studying it before conducting the inspection, writing its report and sending it to the full commission.

David Attenborough joined the BBC's fledgling television service in 1952, fronting Zoo Quest, the breakthrough wildlife series that established the international reputation of the BBC Natural History Unit at Bristol.
The first of these, Zoo Quest for a Dragon, established Attenborough as an intuitive performer, so prepossessed by his fascination with the subject at hand and unconcerned for his own dignity in front of the camera that he seemed to sweat integrity.
Moreover, Zoo Quest engaged, albeit in an entertainment format, a far higher level of scientific seriousness than more child-oriented and anthropomorphic competitors from Europe and the United States.
