  Zoolander - Rotten Tomatoes
Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) isn't smart, but he looks "really, really good." An empty-headed yet kindhearted male model, the self-absorbed Derek becomes an unwitting pawn in a international assassination plot masterminded by oddball fashion dictator Jacobim Mugatu (Will Ferrell).
A movie has to be somewhat smart to be so successfully silly, and Zoolander is a comedy that nails its targets with impressive regularity.
What Zoolander does have, and this was enough for me, is a sublime comic performance by Owen Wilson.

  Zoolander
Zoolander is male model to the extreme – fashion savvy but empty headed – and plans to win Male Model of the Year for the 4th consecutive time.
Zoolander brings us well within the fashion world to the point that I believe there were some jokes that I missed; such as one cameo from Paris Hilton, who I certainly would not have known when the film came out in 2001, much less at the time it was filmed.
Zoolander also manages to capture all of the glitter and glam of the fashion world, as well as its shallowness.

Zoolander, like Superstar and Ladies' Man, was born in sketch comedy, expanding a character created by Stiller for the 1996 and 1997 VH-1 Fashion Awards.
Most of Zoolander's laughs come at the expense of male models, but the film's biggest gag might be its attempt to push Stiller (who's practically a chimp) and Wilson (who has the worst nose in Hollywood) as the cream of the world's modeling crop.
And Zoolander is yet another film that previously featured shots of the World Trade Center, which have been removed from the prints that will make their way to theatres near you.

Zoolander's brainwashing scene utilizes retro pop-art and music video imagery to its best effect while his 'walk-off' with Hansel, a split-screen, gun-slinging parody set to Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' is the film's comic highlight.

Radio Free Movie Review: Zoolander (2001)
Zoolander, with its focus on a blundering agent of espionage, is reminiscent of the Austin Powers films, and suffers from most of the same flaws as the Mike Myers franchise: characters that tend to be one-joke ponies, gags that miss the mark, and an incomprehensible need to slop on unnecessary sentiment.

Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller, reprising the character he played in two previous short films) is a fabulously successful male model whose voice has the breathless ditziness of a Marilyn Monroe caricature; his phrases are so precise it's as if they've been plucked into shape with tweezers, but they don't make much sense.
