 | | It has been christened Pleuroplitoides smithi, by Professor Wilhelm Foissner of the Institute of Zooology at the University of Salzburg, Austria. |
 | | Professor Foissner discovered the new microbe, which is a relatively rare type, in samples collected by Dr Smith during an expedition to the antarctic in 1984, which have only recently been thoroughly analysed and examined. |
