American Experience | Zoot Suit Riots | Special Features
Zoot suiters asserted themselves, at a time when fabric was being rationed for the war effort, and in the face of widespread discrimination.
Zoot suits were reserved for special occasions -- a dance or a birthday party.
So there was a sense that the zoot suit was not just a Mexican dress, it was also a connection with other minority youth, but in Los Angeles also was representative of the Mexican American population, in a certain way.

Zoot Money. The Bull’s Head, Barnes. 26 December 2001 - review by John Scott Cree
Zoot, with a great voice and huge personality, played Ray Charles, Jimmy Smith and Stax soul before it became big.
I was bit worried for them, in case Zoot’s playing had declined or he had gone too jazzy.

Zoot Money biography - Part 1 - The Early Years
Quite simply the biggest character on the British rhythm and blues scene since the early 1960s, Zoot Money was born George Bruno Money on 17 July 1942 in Bournemouth, Dorset, England.
At school Zoot played the French horn and sang in the choir, but it wasn't long before he heard the call from the pied pipers of rock and roll (aka Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Charles - what a combination!) and found himself transformed into a leading light on Bournemouth's vibrant music scene.
Zoot's shows were famed far and wide for his combination of outrageous antics (including "shocking" trouser activity that predated PJ Proby by several years), tight musicianship and passionate vocal delivery.

Zoot Money : The All Happening Zoot Money's Big Roll Band at Klook's Kleek - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Money's records never seemed to support his reputation (among U.K. musicians, anyway) as a major figure in British R&B. This isn't a brilliant album, but it's probably the best representation of his talents that made it onto vinyl.
Money plays forceful R&B with organ-dominated arrangements and the occasional jazzy jamming, somewhat in the mold of Georgie Fame or Graham Bond (both of whom were considerably better than Zoot).
Money isn't much of a singer, for one thing, and the band are not very original interpreters and arrangers.

VH1.com : Zoot Money : Biography - Urge Music Downloads
Zoot Money was one of British rock 'n' roll's homebound heroes -- admired, respected and sought after by his colleagues, and able to fill halls nightly in England, he never managed to sell lots of records, even in England.
The latter took root in London, consisting of Money on vocals, piano, and organ, Andy Somers on guitar, Nick Newell and Johnny Almond on saxes, Paul Williams on bass and vocals, and Colin Allen on drums.
Money also knew the members well and would have fit right into their existing internal dynamic structure, but he wanted to be more than a keyboard player and back-up singer in a group, and refused the offer.

Magic In The Air - Dantalion's Chariot
Money, a journeyman keyboard player and singer, had made a few records without getting anything close to a hit; his band featured a young Andy Somers, over a decade before the guitarist would reach stardom with the Police (as Andy Summers).
Such was the impact of psychedelic music in 1967, however, that by the middle of the year, Money had decided to totally revamp his sound.
The fact that the album was credited to Zoot Money and the Big Roll Band, rather than Dantalian's Chariot, was an indication that their psychedelic direction, again, would not find support on the industry level.
