PC Reviews -- Zork: Grand Inquisitor
Zork: Grand Inquisitor (ZGI) is an example of a gaming gem that only comes along once in a while.
Anyone familiar with the Zork series (mostly text adventures except for Activision's Zork: Nemesis) knows that the entire world is a marvel in itself.
The Zork Universe has been played through and watched by thousands, maybe millions of gamers since the first Zork game was released.

  Zork
Zork was one of the first Interactive fiction computer games and an early descendent of ADVENTURE (also known as Colossal Cave).
Part of the reason for splitting Zork into three different games was that, unlike the PDP systems the original ran on, micros did not have enough memory and disk storage to fit the entirety of the original game.
Zork distinguished itself in its genre as an especially rich game, in terms of both the quality of the storytelling and the sophistication of its text parser, which was not limited to simple verb-noun commands ("hit grue"), but understood full sentences ("hit the grue with the Elvish sword").

When the first graphic version, Return to Zork, appeared in 1993, fans cracked the box with both anticipation and trepidation, hoping it was true to the text.
Return to Zork had the same mix of silliness and puzzle-solving that made Zork a classic adventure game series and kept its fans up too late.
Zork: Grand Inquisitor comes with a handy timeline of all the major events in the history of the Zork.

Zork was, originally, just made as a fun project for the four of them to work on.
Most of the later Zork games were in some way connected to these first two trilogies, either by tying in to the story of the Dungeon Master, or by involving a struggle involving the fate of magic.
While Zork Grand Inquisitor was originally going to be the first of a three part trilogy, the poor sales of Zork Grand Inquisitor convinced Activision to postpone any new Zork projects until there was nothing better for them to do.

Zork Zero was the last Zork game to be written and designed by the original Infocom authors and design team.
Epic and expansive, Zork Zero is very enjoyable, and for the most part does not rely on the graphics in its interface, though a few graphical puzzles (including a Double Fannucci game) use the graphics to good effect.
Though in the overall timeline of the history of Quendor, Zork Zero seems to have been designed as a conclusion to one of the greatest and most influential of all computer gaming series.

In the Zork series of interactive fiction computer games, created by Infocom and Activision, the Zork calendar is the system for assigning calendar dates to days in the fictional Zork timeline of the Great Underground Empire, formerly known as the Kingdom of Quendor.
Years in the Zork (or "Quendorian") calendar are usually written in "GUE" (Great Underground Empire).
GUE counts forward from the year 0 GUE, in which Quendor was created, but is often only used for dates after and including 770 GUE, in which Quendor was renamed "The Great Underground Empire".
